Dr. Richard Proia
Dr. Richard Proia attended the University of Pennsylvania for his Bachelors Degree going on to receive his Medical Degree from Columbia University. He served his General Surgery Residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire where he additionally completed Vascular Surgery Research and held the title of General Surgery Chief Resident. He fulfilled his Thoracic Surgery Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Dr. Proia concluded his training with his Fellowships in Cardiothoracic Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical Center, both located in New York City, New York.
Prior to relocating to Gainesville, Dr. Proia was an Instructor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and an Instructor of Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical Center. He is board certified in Thoracic Surgery additionally holding his board certification in the American Board of Surgery. His professional memberships include the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Proia has held numerous leadership positions in the medical community over the years. He has served as Chief of Surgery, Vice Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff at North Florida Regional Medical Center here in Gainesville, Florida. In addition to his medical leadership positions, Dr. Proia participates in medical mission trips having recently traveled to the Dominican Republic to perform 12 heart surgeries on patients who otherwise would not have access to that level of medical care. In his leisure time, Dr. Proia enjoys fitness, sports and spending time with his family.
